It’s time to bring your marketing in-house, and that means making your first marketing hire.
In a small business, much of your marketing tasks are probably administrative. Updating the website; writing social media posts; sending out emails; creating content… there’s a lot of straightforward stuff there. It makes sense for your first marketing hire to be a junior person, such as an Apprentice or someone with only a little experience.
A junior marketer can do most of your marketing administration and, over time, be developed into your Marketing Manager and then Head of Marketing.
But a new Marketing hire needs support, training, mentoring, and strategic guidance if they - and your business - are going to flourish. Do you have the time and expertise to provide that yourself? Are you equipped to create a strategy and plan for your Junior Marketer or Apprentice to follow? Will you be able to show them how to implement the plan and teach them how to do effective marketing in your business? Do you have the time and expertise to answer all their questions and provide feedback on their work?
We can help.
We want your business to thrive and, to do that, you need every member of your team to thrive.
We help business owners create strategic, structured marketing so that their time is freed up to focus on running their business.
Here at Ros Conkie’s Marketing Academy, we will work with you to create a structured, strategic plan for your business, and support your Junior Marketer throughout the implementation.

Setting your strategy and creating an outline plan
We recommend starting with a strategy and prioritisation session. This half-day session will give you absolute clarity on exactly what you need to do to start scaling up your business.
At the end of this session, you’ll have a prioritised one-page plan as well as clarity on the best way to take it forward. In all likelihood, the next step will be one of these three:
At the end of this session, you’ll have a prioritised one-page plan as well as clarity on the best way to take it forward. In all likelihood, the next step will be one of these three:
- Start implementing your plan with your existing team: we can support you in creating a detailed plan that you can implement with the resources you already have in place.
- Outsource your activities to people who have the skills to execute them: we can help you find good suppliers (or possibly support you ourselves, if we can).
- Use your outline plan to create a job specification and start the recruitment process: we can support the recruitment process and train and mentor your recruit as necessary.
Comprehensive strategic training and detailed planning
Unless you have an experienced strategic marketing person on your team already, we'll probably recommend a comprehensive training and planning package. As the business owner, you need to understand how your marketing is going to work and how it’ll achieve your goals. And your marketing team (or marketing person) needs to understand how that strategy was created, so they can effectively implement the plan.
By the end of this package, you will have a 90-day plan aiming to achieve goals you’ll have set, and you'll be set up to implement it.

Ongoing support, mentoring and planning
We can also provide ongoing support and mentoring to you and your marketing person (or people) on a retainer basis. For a fixed monthly fee, we’ll be on your team to provide feedback, answer questions, and regularly review and create new 90-day plans.
Recruitment support
If you haven’t yet recruited your marketing person, we can also help with that. Depending on what you need, we can help you create a job specification, pre-interview candidates to create a short-list for you, and support the interviewing process.
